PTSD: post-traumatic stress disorder; It is a mental state that frightens, terrifies, and leaves the person helpless, often seen in people after unexpected and extraordinary events. People who are exposed to these events may experience difficulties in adaptation and coping for a temporary period. While this situation is temporary and can be eliminated with good care, it can turn into post-traumatic stress disorder at the point where the symptoms get worse and affect the functioning of the person's daily life. There may be some factors that increase a person's risk of post-traumatic stress disorder. These include the stressful experiences an individual has had throughout his life, the amount and severity of traumas, the presence of hereditary mental health risks such as anxiety and depression in his family, temperament, inherited personality traits, and the way the individual's brain and body regulate chemicals and hormones released in response to stress. Symptoms such as anxiety and depression, alcohol and drug use-related disorders, suicidal thoughts and actions, and eating disorders may occur in people with post-traumatic stress disorder. Getting help and support with this situation in time can prevent normal stress responses from worsening and turning into post-traumatic stress disorder. Antidepressants are effective in helping the individual cope with the symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as improving sleep problems and concentration.
